Objectives

Chop Chop is a project for young people with fewer opportunities that aims to enhance their employability and well-being, using cooking as the main tool. Objectives of Chop Chop project: - To bring 8 group leaders together in an APV to prepare the youth exchange in all its aspects - To bring 32 disadvantaged youngsters aged 18-30 and 8 group leaders together in an exchange to exchange best practices - To enhance the employability skills of the youngsters through cooking activities, with a focus on teamwork, communication, planning, and organizing - To increase the sense of initiative - To enhance self-esteem and self-confidence - To increase the well-being of youngsters by living and working in an international setting, preparing and consuming healthy foods - To let the youngsters learn about different food industries and farms in Overijssel and raise awareness in the local community of Erasmus+ opportunities - To provide the opportunity for the youngsters to create and disseminate several products to spread the project results and outcomes, this includes a food festival, a Cook Book, videos/photos shared on social media, online promotion from our partners, and a local event in their community - To connect with their local community by sharing the outcomes of the project, their experiences, and learnings with the locals The employability skills noted in the research studies are communication, teamwork, problem-solving, planning and organizing, technology, self-management, initiative, and enterprise skills (Weligamage, S. S., 2009). All these skills are present and challenged in the process of cooking, along with others such as time management, language skills, and budgeting. The project aimed to involve and support the youngsters in cultivating these skills and encourage active citizenship, European dialogue, and further contribution to communities and society. We developed a youth exchange where we implemented different activities using cooking as a tool for learning, encouraged youngsters to deliver their activities and workshops, this way increasing employability skills, and the well-being of the youngsters. We aimed to create an environment where the youngsters could communicate and work in a team, and take initiative while increasing their well-being, preparing and consuming healthy food, and developing new eating habits. Chop Chop project was designed according to the criteria set by Erasmus: contribute to sustainable growth, by enriching the experiences of youngsters and bringing together a group of 40 people who prepared and participated in cooking activities and get involved in non-formal learning, encouraging them to become active citizens and connect them to the European project. The youngsters acquired and developed competencies for life and their professional future, by being involved in the preparation, implementation, reflection, and evaluation of the activities. The project followed the general objective of Erasmus by contributing to social cohesion, European identity, and active citizenship, by bringing an impact on the local communities and beyond with the support of the partner organizations.
