Objectives

The main reason we wanted to carry out this project is to address the pressing issues of intolerance, discrimination, and hate speech faced by refugees and migrants in Europe. The world has always been on the move, and historically, migration processes have been a part of human history. However, in recent years, the number of people forced to flee their homes due to wars, civil conflicts, poverty, and climate change has dramatically increased, leading to one of the largest refugee crises in Europe since World War II. The Erasmus + program and other lifelong learning initiatives have focused on facilitating movement and cultural exchanges for young people in Europe, but the current situation demands specific attention to the challenges faced by refugees and migrants. Various human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), and the UNHRC, have reported alarming levels of discrimination and intolerance in some countries. The project aimed to educate and empower young people to combat hate speech and discrimination towards refugees through several key objectives that were focusing on: 1. Understanding Migration: The first objective was to provide participants with a better understanding of migration processes, the reasons behind migration, and its effects on young people. By enhancing their knowledge, we aimed to promote empathy and a more informed perspective on the challenges faced by refugees. 2. Promoting Positive Attitudes and Acceptance: We seeked to foster a positive attitude towards refugees and migrants, promoting acceptance and understanding in local communities. By breaking down misconceptions and stereotypes, we aimed to create a more inclusive and compassionate society. 3. Combatting Hate Speech: Participants were educated on what constitutes hate speech and how to distinguish it from freedom of expression. Moreover, we also aimed to provide them with effective ways to report hate speech online, encouraging them to stand up against such harmful behaviors. 4. Promoting Non-violent Solutions: Instead of responding to hate with more hate, we aimed to inform young people about peaceful methods to combat hate speech towards refugees. Dialogue and understanding were emphasized as crucial tools in addressing these issues. 5. Introducing the No Hate Speech Movement: The project focused to introduce young people to the No Hate Speech movement, empowering them to actively participate in initiatives that fight hate speech and promote human rights. 6. Fostering Tolerance and Mutual Understanding: Lastly, the project aimed to create a platform for dialogue and interaction between young people from different nationalities. By promoting tolerance and mutual understanding, we hoped to bridge gaps and foster unity among diverse communities. This project was driven by the urgent need to address the discrimination and intolerance faced by refugees and migrants in Europe. By empowering young people with knowledge, promoting positive attitudes, and providing effective strategies to combat hate speech, we aspired to contribute to a more inclusive, compassionate, and understanding society. Through these efforts, we hoped to make a positive impact on the lives of those forced to leave their homes in search of safety and a better future.
