Objectives

The Youth Exchange "You(th)ink Green" was a project organised in Assel in the Netherlands from the 1-8 July 2023 (excluding travel days). This project was on the topic of sustainability and we wanted to recognise, share, inspire, interpret and engage the youth in a green way of life and make a difference in the community in which they live, study and work. We brought together 50 young people and youth leaders from 6 different countries (Armenia, Germany, Hungary, Malta, Montenegro, and The Netherlands) to reflect together on this serious and important topic in a relaxed atmosphere. It was important for us that young people with fewer opportunities also take part in this project. So from all the partner countries we had at least two or three young people with fewer opportunities. We had a good mix of participants with different backgrounds. All the partners and young people who took part in this project were really interested in this topic of sustainability and they took active role in the project from the beginning till the end and even after the project as the participants were active and took interest to organise several activities on this topic of sustainability in their own organisations. Through non formal and playful methods we wanted to recognize ecological issues and environmental climate change and the impact of it on our planet, they shared to each other the sustainable and environmentally responsible practices from their personal life, in their organisations and inspired each other in different ways also through visiting some sustainable projects in the Netherlands. From this we learned to interpret and create a "Green" guidelines, "checklists" "actions" for the future. This sustainability checklist helped individuals and organisations to self reflection and to act to which extent we follow the ecologically friendly attitudes. Finally this youth exchange aimed also to engage young people with fewer opportunities and involved the participants on how to promote and organize activities in taking actions regarding greener ways of life and practices. To prepare well this target group and also to involve and strengthen this group especially the ones with fewer opportunities we had three online meetings and a "Preparatory meeting" and this enabled the project and participants involvement the project in a qualitative way. For us it was important to get the best results of intercultural learning from this project. The group was so diverse and performed their best to show different elements of their culture through food, drinks, and art forms at several parts of the project. Through non-formal and informal methods we aimed also to promote the benefits of the "European Green Deal" to improve the well-being and health of everyone around us. With these European Green Deal actions we aimed to have cultural debate and healthy discussions especially on sustainability, healthy life styles, environmental, social and governance issues and participants suggested possible actions allowing sustainable growth and a better world.
