Objectives

Gender inequality was defined as discrimination based on gender, signifying that women and men were treated differently solely due to gender stereotypes. It affected various aspects of everyday life and remained a significant issue in the 21st century. According to the UN Report on Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, gender inequality had widened despite continuous efforts to address it. The effects of gender inequality particularly impacted women and girls, exacerbated further by the Coronavirus pandemic. In response to the data, the European Commission adopted a Gender Equality Strategy in March 2020. This strategy recognized gender equality as one of the core values of the EU and set goals to achieve a gender-equal Europe. As acknowledged within the strategy, although European countries were generally ranked high globally on gender equality, no Member State had achieved full gender equality to date. All available data underscored that gender inequality persisted as one of Europe’s biggest challenges, despite extensive efforts. Gender equality, as one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, was critical for advancing sustainable development in all areas, with women’s empowerment and gender equality at the core. However, the impacts of gender inequality in everyday life were still not widely recognized across society. With this context in mind, this project aimed to contribute to gender equality by raising awareness among young people about how gender inequality affected various areas of life. Through learning about the implications of gender inequality, young people would gain awareness of these challenges and develop a better understanding of how to promote gender equality within their communities. The specific aims of the project were as follows: - To foster an inclusive European society by educating young people on the social impacts of gender inequality. - To create an equal, sustainable economy for everyone by highlighting gender inequality within the economic sphere to young people. - To promote quality education by raising awareness of gender inequality’s effects on learning opportunities. - To enhance the mental and physical health and well-being of young people by informing them about the health-related impacts of gender inequality. - To increase participation in the European democratic society by showing young people the legal ramifications of issues arising from gender inequality.
