Reception and integration of refugees and migrants

Objectives

In the three partner countries of the project, local people's prejudice, disapproval and perception of threat towards refugees make social integration difficult and cause conflicts between the two communities. By developing inclusive strategies and solutions for the social integration of refugees with our project, by increasing the awareness of youth workers on tolerance, equality and respect for different cultures. We aimed to integrate refugees and local people and eliminate conflicts. We aimed to ensure harmony between refugee and local young people, to help them tolerate each other and accept different cultures. With this project, we wanted our youth workers to learn techniques to prevent conflict between young people and to help our institutional development and motivate young people with the techniques they learned.

Background

As a foundation in the Netherlands, our institution supports refugee youth in their social and economic integration by providing support in education, health, housing and job placement.According to UN figures, Turkey is the country with the most refugees in the world.350,000 Syrian, Pakistani and Afghan refugees live in Izmir, the city where our partner in Turkey is located. There were also Ukrainians who came because of the war. Our Turkish partner is an association for young people, working to make young people aware of the problems in the world and fulfill their responsibilities. He has been involved in aid work for refugees and wants to contribute to their integration. As a youth foundation, our French partner supports disadvantaged young people (especially refugees) in their social and economic integration by providing support in education, health, housing and job placement. The legal representatives of the institution themselves went to France as refugees and established their lives there. We applied for this project, believing that it was necessary to first train youth workers in order to eliminate the idea of three common "others".We wanted our youth workers to learn methods to prevent conflict between refugee/non-refugee youth.
