Our journey began in June 2022, in Utoya, Norway, where we gathered for a Partnership Building Activity that marked the beginning of a significant experience for us and the communities we represent. It was there that we, a group of youth workers and young individuals from Norway, Slovakia, and Romania, identified a shared challenge: our young people were navigating life without crucial life competences like communication, collaboration, teamwork, and intercultural understanding. Recognizing this not just as an educational gap but as a barrier to their development, we then felt motivated to act. After three days of preparation we were finally ready to start working on our project, which we later on continued from home, having different meetings for coordination. Our goal was to cultivate these essential soft skills among the youth in our communities. We envisioned a project that would not only address the immediate need for skill development but also lay a foundation for long-term personal and professional growth. This vision materialized into an Erasmus+ project with three Youth Exchange mobilities planned in Romania, Norway, and Slovakia. Our first objective was to develop the level of competences in cooperation, communication, and teamwork among young people aged 15-18 from Norway, Slovakia, and Romania. We chose non-formal and informal learning methods as our primary tools for this endeavor, we recognized their effectiveness in engaging young minds and imparting practical skills. The second objective was focused on expanding intercultural understanding and English-speaking abilities among the same group of youths. In today's interconnected world, the ability to navigate cultural differences and communicate across language barriers is very important, especially for someone young who is just starting to discover the world . Through our project, we provided young individuals with the opportunities to interact with peers from different cultural backgrounds, thereby broadening their horizons and enhancing their language skills. The final objective was to increase the capacity of our three partner organizations in organizing and finalizing a Key Action 1 Youth Exchange. This meant not only successfully executing the current project but also laying a strong foundation for future initiatives. We aimed to build a framework and acquire the experience necessary to continue offering meaningful and impactful opportunities for young people to develop their soft skills. Throughout the project, we kept these objectives at the forefront of our planning and execution. Each activity, each exchange, and each interaction was designed to contribute to these goals. As we approached the conclusion of our project, we began to see the fruits of our labor – young individuals more confident in their abilities to communicate, collaborate, and understand different cultures, and organizations better equipped to facilitate these transformative experiences.
