The motivation for this project was to increase access to outdoor education for marginalised target groups and to increase the capacities of the participating organisations to use Outdoor Education as a tool for people who have been displaced as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since the outbreak of the conflict, REACT Volda has been actively applying this tool to displaced persons to good effect, and we wished to develop and share best practices within the partnership. The aims of the project were: – to increase our organisations' capacities to use Outdoor Education as a tool for promoting social inclusion amongst youth displaced by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – to recruit and train professionals who can initiate inclusive activities, facilitate access and contribute to create a diverse community using the frame of Outdoor Education. We sought to realise these aims by setting the following objectives: – To provide participants with the foundations of the principles of Outdoor Education (Kolb cycle; action, reflect transfer, frontloading and feedback sessions) – To teach participants how to organise and manage holocratic outdoor processes focusing on creating teams, tasks and roles for wilderness camp management – To provide experience of a multi-day outdoor expedition and show how this can be used to create an extended learning environment – To create an environment of peer learning where youth workers from programme and partner countries can exchange best practice – To facilitate the personal development of participants through enabling them to step outside their comfort zone and explore ways of learning how to learn. – To understand the barriers to participation in Outdoor Education programmes faced by young people displaced from conflict zones and strategies for removing them – To increase the capacities of international dimension of the partners youth work and to lay the foundations – in terms of knowledge, expertise, and international networks – for organising further follow-up projects, such as international youth exchanges with outdoor educational elements, which promote social integration and inclusion.
