Gender balance in the media – or rather the lack of it – is a global problem. Regardless of the country or region, figures show that women have less of a voice in the news, whether they are subjects, sources or journalists. Youth Exchange under the Erasmus+ program is an excellent opportunity for young people to reflect on gender inequality in all countries and identify possible causes and solutions to address the same needs. Moreover, the implementation of this project is highly relevant at a time when media and social media can be used to support movements against gender discrimination and violence. The project envisions the participation of 30 young people from 4 different countries who will spend 8 days participating in activities to analyze the issue of gender inequality in the media industry and mass communication. Objectives: -Promote gender equality among young people. -Prevent the use of media as a tool to spread dangerous behaviours such as hate speech and cyber harassment among young people and encourage the use of social networks to promote equality and social inclusion; -Sensitisation to gender equality issues in the field of journalism, both in terms of content (practise) and professional development (employment); -Developing participants' skills to implement gender-sensitive forms of journalistic practise; -Application of learning to participants' own national and cultural contexts; -Exchange and discussion of gender journalism issues in an intercultural context; -Developing an idea for a gendered story that could be elaborated into a short video journalism; -Promoting youth exchanges as a good practise for sharing information and opinions on common problems and needs; Understanding how mass media influences society's behaviour and opinion towards a group; -Understand how mass media influence young people's perceptions of their abilities and affect their decisions; -Improve young people's abilities to work in a team to discuss and find solutions; -Improve young people's abilities to communicate in a foreign language; -Promote art and new technologies as effective tools to raise awareness and combat discrimination.
