We want to implement the project for several reasons. The main reason is our interest in the subject of the project. We are aware that our generation is largely responsible for the fate of our planet in the future. Young people are more and more interested in the subject of ecology and want to have an impact on stopping the ecological disaster that awaits us, and the effects of which we can see today. The plastic that surrounds us on all sides is a global problem that we all have an influence on because each of us uses this material, but not everyone is aware of the consequences of the lack of proper segregation of waste and its impact on fauna and flora – from islands of rubbish in waters that affect life in the oceans and seas, to microplastics, which are increasingly found in the water and food we consume. The second part of our project focuses on the competence of critical thinking, which, in our opinion, is one of the most important competencies of a human being in the 21st century. Never before in human history people had such easy access to information. The digitization of the world has allowed for enormous development and progress, but also created new threats such as fake news, post-truth and disinformation phenomena, which, as we mentioned earlier, can be a weapon against humanity, which history has shown more than once. There are more and more grassroots initiatives that try to educate society in this regard, and we, too, through this program, want to contribute to building social awareness in this area. Why do we combine these two themes? Because both are in the area of our interests, critical thinking is useful in every situation and can be practised on any topic, also when talking about ecology, because as well in this area we can come across lies that are spread in society. A good example of this is climate denialism, which is very dangerous on a large scale and can always be refuted by critical thinking. Our group also has a common passion for creating and implementing projects. Studying at university gives us many possibilities and space for trying new things and developing our skills. That is why we want to use this time as much as possible and gain practical experience, which is necessary for today's labour market. The Erasmus program offers many opportunities and is widely recognized and respected in the international arena. Therefore, we want to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the European Union to young people in order to be able to develop and, as conscious citizens, contribute to the co-creation of our international community. Below we introduce the main objectives we want to achieve by implementing our project. The project is designed to fulfil our needs and leave participants with practical knowledge and tools so that they will: – get a clear understanding of microplastic problems and know how to make an educational change on this topic; – know the issues of microplastic and the fourteenth aim of sustainable development goals UN from a modern perspective and compare the situation in different European countries; – increase their knowledge and experience with critical thinking as a competence of the future and underline environmental threats to deal with; – be able and empowered to become active volunteers and citizens in society; – know all opportunities in the Erasmus+ programme; – raising awareness of environmental problems and the need for immediate action; – promoting a pro-ecological approach to life; – presenting the problem of plastic in water – from microplastics to garbage islands; – develop critical thinking skills and distinguish between verified information and fake news; – discovering the potential for creative and innovative solving of ecological problems. We act in line with the rule of small changes – one project will not save the world, but it can contribute to its improvement. Each action is worthwhile if it can introduce even the slightest positive change that can become the beginning of something bigger.
