The project was developed with the aim of tackling one of today's most pressing global challenges: food waste. According to Our World in Data, the European Union wastes around 89.28 million tons of food every year, with significant impacts not only on access to food, but also on the unsustainable use of natural resources, environmental effects and social inequalities. At a global level, the FAO estimates that 931 million tons of food are wasted every year, meaning that the water, soil, energy and human labor involved in food production also end up being wasted. This reality becomes even more worrying when confronted with the fact that millions of people around the world face situations of food insecurity and difficulties in accessing essential goods. The problem of food waste goes beyond the issue of food itself, as it involves the excessive consumption of resources, environmental degradation and the perpetuation of social inequalities. To this end, the United Nations has established the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to be achieved by 2030, including SDG 12 - Sustainable Production and Consumption, which aims to drastically reduce food waste and encourage more responsible consumption practices. The implementation of this project thus sought to respond to this urgent need for change, working directly with young people to raise awareness, empower and encourage more sustainable behavior. The project was born out of the need to actively involve the younger generations in reversing contemporary environmental and social challenges. It was designed to create an intercultural and transnational learning environment, promoting the sharing of good practices and innovative methodologies that would raise young people's awareness of food waste and encourage them to adopt more sustainable behaviors in their daily lives. In addition to the individual impact on their daily choices, the project also aimed to encourage the active participation of young people in decision-making processes and social and environmental change. -OBJECTIVES- The main aim of the project was to promote the social inclusion of young people in all its dimensions, with a particular focus on their participation in decision-making about social and environmental change. We believe that empowering and involving young people is essential to achieving a more sustainable and equitable society, where everyone can actively contribute to solving environmental and social challenges. The main objective, as well as the needs, have been met through the specific objectives defined according to the SMART logic: - Promote the development of essential and green skills among young people, through mobility opportunities that enable meaningful and non-formal learning; - To train young people on the subject of food waste, encouraging cooperation and involvement in processes of social and environmental change; - Guarantee the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, ensuring that everyone has access to personal and social development initiatives, regardless of their origin or socio-economic status; - Reinforce European social values, such as diversity, inclusion, tolerance and respect, promoting intercultural dialogue and the sharing of good practices; - Engage young people in local and global challenges, fostering critical thinking and the adoption of sustainable behaviors that have a positive impact on society and the environment. At the end of the project, these objectives were all achieved, resulting in a strengthened youth sector, empowered participants and greater awareness of the need for sustainable and responsible consumption practices among young people and their communities.
