"Youth unemployment: The race to zero” Inspired by the keynote speech at the 2018 European Youth Event, Sport Evolution Alliance is motivated to participate in this race and become among the top competitors in the fight against youth unemployment. The 2008 economic crisis led to a vulnerable labour market and produced chronic damage on the young generation who, even after thirteen years, is paying the highest price regarding lower wages, fewer job opportunities and lower motivation of involving themselves into social and political activities. According to Eurostat data of 2016, almost 14% of young people between 15-29 slipped into the NEET category – young people who are not in employment, education or training and disengaged from every kind of social activity. In Portugal, according to the local government, there are almost 67,5 thousand people in this situation, and it is a priority to low down this number to half of it. The consequences of being a NEET are drastic: first and foremost, this phenomenon has personal and psychological effects (lower level of engagement and trust, the absence of prospects and deviant behavior because socially alienated), on the other hand, the inability to fruitfully employ young generation in the labour market causes an economic cost for the society. Our mission was to transform NEETs into active European society members. We had "the Why", we figured out "the What", we understood "the How". Implementing "MYFuture" is the Now. MYFuture program consisted in a youth exchange, in the city of Lisbon, European Capital of Sports 2021, involving 60 NEETs from Portugal and Bulgaria. We were convinced that its unique structure had great potential to impact an important amount of young people - although conceived as a short-term project, it was planned to have a long-lasting impact. The youth exchange was designed as a nest, where participants had to "learn how to fly". It was a start hub, where NEETs reinforced their strengths and rediscovered their path. We aimed to promote employability and active participation of young people in pushing forward the idea of a stronger and united Europe, as former President Juncker said in his 2018 State of the Union speech. We educated through Sport and Non-formal education methodologies to develop personal and professional skills. MYFuture ultimate goal was to provide a smooth but quick and efficient transition. The main objective of this project was to help youth people, facing unemployment, to increase their chances of getting employed. Within 11 days, we fostered 60 youth people to improve their capacities and soft skills in order to fight against unemployment. In order to do so, our expertise leads us to identifying the following objectives: - to provide an oportunity to the youth in need of one for integration and international exchange; - to foster mutual understanding between young people from two different countries; - to give the participants the opportunity to acquire and apply cross-skills, soft skills and participatory and leadership attitudes through Sport and Non-Formal Education; - to promote the engagement of young people in the education and/or labour market; - to stimulate young people’s spirit of initiative, creativity and entrepreneurship; - to raise awareness of Erasmus + program and to spread EU core values among young people.
