Objectives

In recent years the Sahara desert increased 10%, scientists are predicting that these severe desert conditions are migrating north (to Europe), oceans are filled with pollution by human activity, marine life is seriously threated and drinkable water is less than 5% of the water available in the world and we treat this resource like it´s infinite, using it badly and with no planning for the future, and now what? Now that the climate change is REAL, what are we going to do? Is our future that grey? With this in mind we decided to create “Build up your life 2.0 - Water Series”, the idea born from an old application that wasn’t approved (the Oasis Project) and the struggle that all European partners involved in the application faced this summer (these Ngo´s and their communities faced long periods without rain, wild fires nearby, high temperatures, prices of basic food products doubled, and so on). Back in 2018 we were very inspired with the water management being done in the Moroccan mountains by our partners Dar Si Hmad - the Oasis School, they started has a a programme to capture water from the fog, and it turned into a community project where they teach populations with low education and resources ways to well manage resources, using available and low tech solutions. Since then we, Quinta das Relvas, have been accumulating lots of know how related with increasing bio-diversity, being more sustainable and "growing" water. Now we feel (after being involved in Youth Exchanges since 2016, receiving good practice award with Build up your life and having other complex projects happening like a small scale partnership next year) it´s time to move forward and organize with other key national trainers a project that can create highly effective multipliers on this topic that is Water management and community work. The idea is to follow the structure of Build up your life, a Youth Exchange that we organized in 2019 about giving know-how on sustainable development and that was transformed by us in terms of programme into a training, we gave a full Permaculture Design Course - a huge success to everyone, we received a good practices Award from this activity. This time the focus will be Water management and we want to work harder on youth workers selection and dissemination results, we know that in terms of content we have this figured, but we want to use a different strategy to create a more lasting result that all can benefit from. Project stages: Selecting key personal and this will be easy (we hope), because all NGO´s already have work done in the sustainability and Resource protection area, the case studies and the youth workers will easily be involved - meaning: that we will build up on already knowledge being used and boost their work quality with both theoretical but also practical knowledge on this of out most importance topic for our communities. During this project trainers will create a programme that focus around the main topic water management and that tackles several of the SDG´s (6, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15) By taking part in this training youth workers from all NGO´s will discuss these issues and will practice and share small solutions to bring their communities and venues, house holds, facilities closer to sustainability. Participants by being involved will gain from the main activity theoretical know-how, valuable insights by being in the farm managed by sustainable principles (Quinta das Relvas), but also the practical know-how, since they will develop actions as disseminators like evapotranspiration cesspool, ponds, swales, dry toilet systems, water reservoirs and so on. As key and vital part of the last part of the project we want to involve digital tools to create videos about these dissemination and practical work developed by communities, the idea is interconnect with the platform that we are creating with the Foundations project (KA2) and to dedicate a full chapter on water management that wasn´t expected in the original application. ´ The main project objectives: -to bring these water management good practices to a larger audience; -use as main vessel for these interactions the youth worker and its ability to connect with others to trigger start actions; - to tackle key SDG´s and how they can serve as guidelines for the spread of good practices; - to involve different EU NGO’s that work with sustainable topics but with different realities (working with North vs South, different problems create different solutions ) - improve capacities, attractiveness, and international dimension of each organization, so that they can provide activities, programs, and solutions best suited for communities needs - to raise awareness to land regeneration and to protect biodiversity - to create dissemination material that can continue to impact audiences.
