Objectives

Looking at the generation Y and Z, we can see that there are fewer and fewer young people who are interested in political issues, who follow the news consciously and continuously, or who have an opinion about social issues. Even if they participate in social life - thanks to compulsory volunteering - programs introduced in several European countries in recent years, we cannot we can not says they are aware enough of the problems facing society today. Young people nowadays do not know all the opportunities they have to be an active part in society, they are not aware of the fact that the decision for their future lies in their own hands. If they gain more knowledge about opportunities from around them and realize that their voice can be heard, they will be more motivated to work for a better future. According to the needs analysis we did in different schools, between March and May 2022, there is no clear school curriculum to obtain information about the current human systems, opportunities but also its problems. We polled 200 of young people from different neighborhoods of Timisoara (Fabric, Elisabetin, Modern and Ronat) about the knowledge about the Union European Union, Human Rights and democracy and we concluded that they are limited. Young people have some opinions about political situations, they often reflect the point of view of their parents. Young people could support certain ideas or theories but do not have enough knowledge about the topic. In other cases, young people have become neutral or have negative feelings towards political issues and do not actively participate in their communities. Nowadays, young people and even old people are afraid to share their views on various social topics or do not know how to express their opinions coherently. Furthermore, they do not believe in the power of their ideas or thoughts. Needs analysis was carried out by Mihai Moldovan and Ioana Tiran, members of the association and coordinators of the project Ambulance for Monuments. Our goal was to provide a broader picture of this topic: how democracy (should) work in everyday of our life (starting with the etymology of the word demos & cratos = power of the people), what it means to be an active citizen and how young people can become a conscious, active part of their community. Since the subject of human rights is closely related to our main topic, we have also involved it in this program that helped participants think critically in relation to social problems. Moreover, we aimed to make the young participants of this Erasmus+ mobility more aware of their rights, opportunities, to help them engage socially and become more active citizens, especially European citizens, who are able to influence their own future in a positive way. In short, to learn the art of making their voice heard. In order to achieve these objectives, we have organized an exchange with the involvement of 33 young people aged between 18-25 years (28 out of 33 were in this age range), coming from 4 European countries. The main objectives of the project were: 1) Through non-formal methods, we informed the 33 young people about human rights and the importance of citizenship assets, during the 8 days. 2) Through non-formal methods, we developed the critical, social and cultural thinking of the 33 young people, during the 8 days; 3) Through non-formal methods, we developed the competences and skills of cooperation, the sense of initiative and communication in a foreign language of the 33 young people, during the 8 days; 4) Through non-formal methods, we encouraged the 33 young people to think about social issues and not be afraid to share their opinions, thus making them an active part of their societies, during the 8 days of activities;
