The planet is becoming more and more affected and we humans have begun to realize what impact we have on the environment and also on our planet. Ecological education is lacking in the subjects taught in schools, and its lack brings great awareness among young people about the importance of protecting the planet. According to Greenpeace, one of the largest environmental NGOs in the world, there is no ecological education or interest in this field in Romania at all. Given the current context and challenges, environmental protection means more than cleaning and consciously dumping. The Fridays for Future movement of 2019, initiated by Greta Thunberg, in which young people from Europe campaigned for the environment for 7 months, due to climate change threatening the planet more and more, only aroused in Romania the interest of 3 teenagers who protested in Bucharest. Over time, several issues have been identified on this topic, such as the low level of awareness of the issue of recycling and the need to create creative ways to promote and transmit basic knowledge to young people on this topic, the need for education. In terms of the ecological spirit, the interest of young people in this subject is very low. In our project we`ve met young people looking for uniqueness, who are interested in recycling through art and design reusable materials into useful items. The main objectives of the RE-INVENT-YOUR-CYCLE project were: - To raise awareness among young people about the importance of protecting the planet and the importance of recycling; - Encourage young people to protect the environment as much as possible; - To offer the chance to the 30 young people (plus the 5 group leaders) to find out as much as possible about the planet and the importance of the environment. Through this project, we wanted to sound the alarm among the 35 young people (30 participants + 5 group leaders) about environmental issues, the health of the planet and also the lack of environmental education in schools. Needs addressed by this project: - the need for knowledge about the environment, the planet, recycling, ecology; - the need for ecological education among young people. The main problems discovered by this project are: - lack of general knowledge about the needs of the planet, ecology and the environment; -lack of knowledge and interest in the impact of one's actions; - lack of interest in environmental issues. Lack of information has major consequences. Social involvement and civic sense go hand in hand with life education and the transformation of young people into educated, responsible adults, and environmental education can be learned. That is why the project focuses on an important aspect for partner organizations: raising awareness among young people about the health of the planet and the recycling of materials and their use in youth activities.
