Objectives

"Speak to Succeed" project was a youth exchange project implemented in order to help 40 young people from Romania, Hungary, Netherlands, Greece and Lithuania in developing their communication and public speaking skills. The idea of this project came after the pandemic, when we observed young people around us who, following reduced social contact over a long period of time, during the pandemic, have become more shy, more anxious and have considerably lost their ability to speak in public or even openly, with those close to them. Not only the pandemic contributed to this. At the same time, the rise of technology and social media have made young people live more in the virtual environment and stop spending so much time socializing with each other. Therefore, our proposal was to offer them a context in which they could socialize with each other for 9 days and at the same time to learn with the help of our facilitators the basic aspects of communication and public speaking, suggestions on how to overcome stage fright and how to overcome emotions (these topics were treated seriously, in a safe space for all participants, the sessions about emotions and fear being facilitated one of the main facilitators we collaborate with - Sandra - who has an actor certification and 6 years of experience in theater and acting - therefore being the most suitable person to talk to young people about how to overcome their emotions and how to practice public speaking). The second facilitator - Denis - took care of the team building part and strengthening the team spirit, having the necessary experience after participating and facilitating many E+ projects. Another reason why we wanted to create this project was the low youth employability rates from the participating countries - this unemployability rate is also proven by their low performance in the job interview phase - again, due to low communication skills and public speaking. The respective rates were taken from the official statistics of 2021, more precisely: 20.57% unemployed young people in Romania, 19.02% in Lithuania, 36.87% in Greece, 13.52% in Hungary and 9.61% in the Netherlands. The idea of the project was discussed in advance with the partner organizations and they conducted surveys in their communities to see if young people would be interested in developing such skills - their answer was affirmative, a fact proven by the large number of applicants in the application form for the project: 116 responses. This was one of the most desired projects among young people, from those we have created so far, counting the most registrations. Precisely for this reason, we propose for the following years to develop another similar project, also on the same theme - to be able to help more young people in this direction. The goal of the project was: Increase the level of public speaking and communication competences among youngsters aged 18-25, from the communities of participating countries by the end of the project. The specific objectives of the project were: O1: Organize a 9-day youth exchange in Romania with the goal of improving the public speaking and communication competences among 40 young people from Romania, Lithuania, Netherlands, Hungary and Greece. O2: Empower the participating youngsters aged 18-25 to coordinate workshops during the mobility in order to get over their fear of speaking in public and to increase the job perspectives and quality of their relationships by the end of the project. O3: Develop the competences of participating organizations in implementing activities that aim communication and public speaking. These objectives were linked to the following European Objectives for youth: ”Connecting EU with Youth; Information & Constructive Dialogue; Quality Employment for All; Youth Organisations & European Programmes”, by the Strategic plan of 2020-2024 about Communication and Strategic plan of 2020-2024 about Employment, developed by the European Commission.
