Objectives

"Mental Health" was a project that aimed to promote positive mental health, utilizing specific tools and resources to enhance participants' understanding and approach to mental well-being. Despite a growing acceptance of individuals with mental health issues, especially among younger generations in Europe, there were no official services to support learners at the time. Consequently, those facing mental health challenges were disproportionately represented in early dropout and unemployment statistics, increasing the risk of long-term unemployment. To tackle this issue, the project developed a series of tools and resources to foster inclusion, improve the well-being of young people, encourage continued education, develop employability skills, and facilitate fulfilling careers, ultimately contributing to long-term social inclusion. The objectives of the project were: O1) Raising awareness of mental and emotional wellbeing for 30 participants coming from 3 countries for the duration of the project. O2) Developing theoretical competences and practical abilities for 6 leaders and 3 youth organizations in relation to mental health among youth, through the implementation stages of the project. O3) Strengthening a network of organizations on an International and regional level aimed at taking corrective action in relation to mental health, in the follow up stages of the project. We believe the project reached its objectives as follows: O1 - The project prioritized non-formal education activities, concentrating on providing young people with practical tools for initiating their mental health hygiene journey. Emphasis was placed on fostering positive attitudes and practical skills throughout all project stages. Active involvement of young participants was encouraged to enhance self-awareness regarding their role in this process, ensuring they possessed the motivation and determination to confront future challenges or seek help when needed. Two local community activities organized during the Youth Exchange schedule aimed to kickstart the awareness process among other young individuals with the assistance of project participants. The achievement of this objective was evident from participant feedback, Group Leaders' assessments, and the successful dissemination stages, indicating impact not only on participants during the mobilities but also on their peers and family members. O2 - The project's activity schedule was designed to encompass all three forms of learning: theoretical-formal sessions providing knowledge on mental health and tools for mental health hygiene, non-formal education sessions for practice, allowing participants to experiment and adapt tools to their self-reflection process, and informal learning through connection, sharing, and mutual support throughout the Youth Exchange. While recognizing the progress made during the Youth Exchange as a foundational step, the project acknowledged the need for ongoing support from partner organizations, family, friends, and specialized support available for young participants. O3 - A key strength of the project lies in bringing together our organizations, active in the field of youth, leveraging our abilities and expertise to design an effective learning process for young participants. Lessons learned during the Youth Exchange set new standards for our organizations to address the topic of mental health, and prioritize preventive actions through local and international activities.
