The project Cultures Unite tried to make people more aware of their own background, about other cultures and how all of them are connected at european level with the others. After several discussions between the team members and also the realization of a survey, with the help of which we identified several needs of young people and their desire to discover and better understand the culture of other countries as well as to be in contact with young people from different backgrounds, in order to discover and learn more. One of the objectives was to improve participants knowledge regarding different cultures. Young people were encouraged to explore and appreciate the diversity of cultures in Europe and beyond, by fostering mutual understanding, respect and empathy between participants from different cultural backgrounds. The participants defined both their personal perspective on culture in general, but also built together some ideas and concepts, through methods such as photo story, diversity and tolerance, etc. Another objective that we wanted to achive was regarding the social inclusion and tolerance , making the participants more confident and help their personal development and empowerment. Attitudinal changes were mainly observed during the individual discussion that the group leaders had with each participant before and after the mobility. They collected the conclusions of each discussion and by comparing them, we could see visible changes in the way the participants talk about themselves and their culture, and how they are noticeably more relaxed and carefree after the mobility is over. We believe the main causes of these changes were the sessions while they presented personal stories, they learned about stereotypes, a session which was very emotional for some of the participants, according with the feedback received at the reflection and also from the partner organisations after the project. They understood that they can be part of the community , involve in different activities and projects, be in touch with other persons and having confidence while having fun.
