This project aimed to address the needs that we identified within our network of young volunteers and participants from the communities we worked with in the past years. In this sense, the needs that we identified were particularly connected to: 1. A low level of knowledge regarding the role and attributions of the EU institutions 2. Insufficient competences for using and applying the tools/instruments of participative democracy at an EU level (including the citizens’ initiative, the public consultation of the Commission and EU youth dialogue) 3. A deficient framework of dialogue between the target group members and their representatives at the European level (MEPs, Eurpean Commissioners, permanent representatives etc) Because of these needs that were identified during the needs analysis, the present project was developed in order to address the lack of knowledge and skills of the participants and aimed to create a favorable context for the development of knowledge, attitudes, and skills which would foster active participation in EU democratic life for young people in the target group. The specific objectives of the project were: 1. Raising the awareness of 60 young people aged 18-22 about the roles and functions of the European Parliament, European Commission, and EU Council during the entire project implementation period. 2. Developing the competencies of 30 young people aged 18-22 and southern counties in employing at least three tools of democratic participation at the EU level (i.e., citizens' initiative, Commission public consultations, EU Youth Dialogue) during a 5-day mobility. 3. Creating an efficient dialogue framework between 30 young people aged 18-22 and southern counties and the administrative and political officials within the structures of the European Parliament, European Commission, and EU Council, during a 4-day mobility in Brussels. According to the objectives that we set through the project design, 4 main activities (A1, A2, A3 and A4) were especially created in order for the objectives to be achieved and to produce the expected results.
