Objectives

Project was made to connect young people with special needs and those without them from five European countries and their mentors and companions. The theme of the project was recycling and reuse of different materials, making new creations, recycled instruments, music. The exchange lasted a week and during it, all of the 28 participants were strengthening their social and communication skills, learning to cooperate, socialize. As well they were overcoming stereotypes, prejudices and learning the importance of inclusion and acceptance of diversity. The inclusive nature of this youth exchange provided time and space for the cultivation of human values, solidarity, cooperation, respect, mutual listening and understanding each other. Through creation, performances and presentations, the participants were boosting and strengthening their creative skills, performance skills and learning how to prepare and present themselves in a different language. All workshops of all five countries that participated in the youth exchange, were part of the international inclusive festival »Play with me« in the center of Ljubljana. The project helped create even greater visibility, synergy with other activities and moreover strengthened the whole meaning of inclusion (mainly from the point of view of the majority society, festival visitors, passers-by and tourists) and offering young people additional opportunities to meet, play, cooperate and socialize with various other workers, performers and festival participants. In this way, we significantly achieved several goals of our project - strengthening inclusion, promoting sustainable development, reusing materials, creating environmentally friendly activities, and acquiring life-important competencies that are at least for young people with fewer opportunities or special needs (which in our case were more than half of the participants - 12 out of 20 participants) of extreme importance. And last but not least, with the project we achieved the very goal of inclusive exchange, registered in 2021 but prematurely interrupted due to the pandemic, and at the same time there was a clear desire of all partners to re-register this project and continue and upgrade it.
