Barracks 2.0 is a continuation of the Barracks - stop militarization, start civil society project. It is based on spreading environmental awareness, sustainable ways of living, and connecting or building a community in the degraded area of the former barracks in Škofja Loka, Slovenia. Through the year of 2023 and during the project we transferred knowledge about sustainable lifestyles, reuse and DIY principles onto our local environment. We also raised awareness of the importance of local materials and produce, as well as self-sufficiency. We put the spotlight on the youth as the main actors, offered them the tools and enabled them to actively and confidently participate in the negotiation of their future. In an informal way, we transferred skills and experience to the participants and, with the knowledge offered, increased their opportunities for proactive participation in society, especially in the field of environmental awareness. The project strove for inclusive and accessible activities, the accumulation of practical competences and encouraged the building of local. Ultimately also advocating for the personal development of those involved and the development of critical thought in the fight against climate change.
