The aim of this project was to raise the quality of youth work in Slovakia and Portugal by equipping youth workers with knowledge, techniques and methods to deal with mental health issues in their communities. The project was created out of the direct need of a group of youth workers from both countries who saw an increase in the number of mental health issues in their communities and workplace. These youth workers dealt with these issues in their organizations with their own tools and possibilities, finding support locally from their peers and other youth organizations who also faced similar challenges. This project gathered youth workers from Portugal and Slovakia to promote an exchange of good practices, tools and methods between youth organizations. Despite being located in opposite extremities of Europe, the project partners discovered the youth work in both countries have many similarities that connect them and many differences which boost the potential of a rich exchange. That was the context which motivated the partner organizations to develop this project. Other project goals were to promote sharing and learning innovative ways of working with young people (online tools, group work), discuss supporting instruments at national, regional and local levels, find out how the participants deal with mental health issues with peers, themselves and young people they work with, reevaluate their own work practices, exchange good practices and look for ways to apply them in the participants' own environment. Furthermore, the project activities aimed to develop youth workers' skills in using non-formal education methods, improve their presentation, facilitation and planning skills while delivering the daily program in an international environment, and increase their foreign language competences.
