Objectives

Our project was implemented in Düzce between October 4-9, 2023 (including the travel day). Our project addressed the issue of peer bullying, which is one of the important moments that children experience during their development period and can affect their entire lives, and a frequently experienced problem. Peer bullying is defined as behaviorally, physically or verbally damaging behavior by a person or people in the same age group towards each other or a single person. The first scientific studies on peer bullying, which refers to aggression between peers in schools, were initiated by Norwegian researcher Dan Olweus in the early 1970s. In his initial studies, Olweus expressed peer bullying as group bullying (mobbing), which refers to aggression committed by a group. However, more comprehensive studies have revealed that peer bullying, in addition to being perpetrated by a group, is also perpetrated by a single person. Research results on the prevalence of peer bullying show that the proportion of students who bully peers varies between 1% and 49.5%, the proportion of students who are bullied varies between 5.5% and 56.5%, and the proportion of students who both bully and are exposed to bullying varies between 1% and 10.34%. In all studies examined except one, it is seen that the rate of students exposed to peer bullying is the highest, followed by the bully and bully-victim rates, respectively. The findings also indicate that the proportion of students involved in peer bullying varies greatly both within the same country and between countries. There are different types of peer bullying, including cyber, psychological, physical or emotional. Peer bullying is frequently encountered, especially in schools. These types of bullying include children calling each other nicknames, intimidating each other, threatening each other, and sexually or verbally harassing each other. In the face of such frequently occurring situations, teachers and parents do not have enough information to solve this situation. Therefore, practices regarding intervention against bullying are inadequate. Based on this information, the young people in our project were able to obtain information about peer bullying and develop solutions to this problem. In addition, it was supported to attract the attention of different communities living in different countries and to raise awareness about this issue that can happen to every family. In this context, the aims of our project are explained as follows; To draw attention to the issue of peer bullying, To support the development of solutions against peer bullying, To prevent young people from becoming more insecure and antisocial people in the future, To support the prevention and reduction of the psychological and sociological damage caused by such challenging behaviors, To support the creation of a global awareness, To ensure that young people with fewer opportunities benefit from various advantages and are supported within the scope of equal opportunities.
