Objectives

The main objective of this project was to foster young people's awareness of cultural heritage through architectural structures. We aimed to enable participants to understand the aesthetic values, cultural significance, and philosophical dimensions of historical buildings, and to develop a critical perspective by connecting this knowledge with contemporary lifestyles. Beyond recognizing historical architecture, the project also sought to help participants grasp the broader social, cultural, and environmental dynamics that shaped these structures. Another key aim was to draw attention to the growing challenges posed by standardized construction trends, alienation from nature, and the decline of aesthetic sensitivity in the modern built environment—trends increasingly driven by globalization. We intended to raise awareness among young participants about the link between unsustainable urban development and global environmental crises such as climate change, and to encourage them to explore nature-friendly and sustainable architectural solutions. The project also aimed to promote intercultural understanding by exposing participants to the architectural heritage and traditional crafts of different cultures. In doing so, it supported the development of tolerance and respect for diversity. To achieve these goals, the project employed active learning methods such as workshops, site visits, seminars, and peer learning activities. These approaches enabled participants to internalize the knowledge and skills gained through experiential learning. By the end of the project, participants had developed both an appreciation of the cultural richness of the past and a deeper understanding of how to contribute to sustainable cities of the future. Project outcomes were systematically shared with local authorities and relevant decision-makers, and events were attended by stakeholders to create practical impact. Through this engagement, the ideas and proposals developed by participants went beyond personal learning goals and evolved into concrete recommendations that could inspire local policy-making. In this sense, the project not only raised individual awareness but also contributed to long-term strategies for the preservation of cultural heritage and the promotion of ecologically responsible architecture. It demonstrated the potential of young people's ideas to influence public discourse and policymaking at the local level.
