Based on the Higher Education Act (§9 and §10) 2005 and the implementation of the internationalization strategy anchored in the policy statement, the financial resources from Erasmus+ at the PPHB (Private University of Education Burgenland) were specifically used for student and staff mobility, for the implementation and organization of mobility programs, and for promoting the PPHB as a university location. The aim of the PPHB was to select mobility programs in line with its profile-building priorities in teacher training as set out in the PPHB Policy Statement (learning in virtual spaces, multilingualism and ethnic group languages, learning in natural spaces, elementary education, religious education, transition education, and the intertwining of theory and practice). The PPHB's internationalization strategy is based on the ethnic group languages spoken in Burgenland (Croatian, Hungarian, Romani) and, due to the shared historical past with neighboring countries near and far, pursues the goal of intensifying its geographical focus on Southeast Europe. In order to increase the attractiveness of the Erasmus+ program for primary and secondary school students studying English, special attention was paid to expanding the range of courses offered in an English-speaking country (Malta) with a compatible cooperation partner. By implementing this project, we wanted to achieve sustainable internationalization at the PPHB. Another important step was the creation of an additional vice-rectorate responsible for internationalization. This permanent position in the organizational chart gives the topic greater visibility and strategic importance. The vice-rectorate provides impetus for innovative internationalization strategies and, thanks to its rapid decision-making processes, contributes significantly to the success of the university's international orientation. In addition, a minor employment position was newly introduced, which is filled by a student from the PPHB. This not only provided additional impetus, but also created a close connection to the students. Initial positive developments, particularly in the area of internationalization@home, show that concrete progress has already been made as a result of these measures.
