Project Goals and Background As part of our Erasmus+ accreditation (KA151-YOU), our goal in 2023 was to use a variety of mobility activities to promote youth participation, strengthen their sense of self-efficacy, and improve access to European educational opportunities—particularly for disadvantaged young people. Our overarching aim was to encourage young people, through international learning experiences, to actively engage with topics such as sustainability, inclusion, mental health, and cultural participation, thereby enhancing their competences for living an autonomous life in a democratic and solidaric society. We specifically pursued the following objectives: Strengthening democratic participation and European identity We wanted to give young people and professionals in the youth sector the opportunity to experience and actively shape Europe—through encounters, shared learning, and self-reflection. The aim was to promote civic engagement and a sense of belonging to a united, democratic Europe. Empowerment and inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities Many of our participants face barriers to international mobility (e.g. due to financial hardship, mental health challenges, educational disadvantages, or rural isolation). Through needs-based support, inclusive preparation, and professional supervision, we aimed to create equal participation opportunities. Health promotion and mental well-being The increasing psychological stress on young people was addressed directly. Through mindful, movement-based and nature-oriented methods, we supported participants in recognizing their strengths, building resilience, and finding balance. Environmental responsibility and sustainability We aimed to integrate ecological awareness not only as content but as a practice—through environmentally friendly implementation, reflection on consumption habits, and nature-based educational formats. Strengthening of youth work and international cooperation By including youth workers and stakeholders in the project design and implementation, we also aimed to promote the professional development and European orientation of local youth work. Promoting Sustainability and Environmental Awareness In light of global challenges, we aimed to strengthen awareness of environmental responsibility and make sustainable behavior tangible in everyday life. Projects such as From the Mountain to the Sea and We O’Live enabled intense contact with nature and encouraged reflection on consumer behavior, biodiversity, and ecological cycles. International cooperation and quality development in youth work Another focus was on establishing sustainable partnerships with European organizations in order to implement high-quality youth projects in the long term. Training measures such as “Future Lab” or the PBA “Make it Concrete” served to qualify specialists and develop new project approaches within the framework of Erasmus+ (KA1 & KA2). The result was jointly developed follow-up projects that could also be implemented together with our partner organizations. Innovation through the participation of young people We wanted to see young people not only as a target group, but also as co-creators. Their ideas, experiences, and perspectives were to serve as a catalyst for new formats, content, and methods—for example, in the development of the KA220 project “INCLUDE” or in participatory activities during the youth exchanges. Our projects were therefore not an end in themselves, but strategically embedded in the long-term development of our organization. They were an effective tool for implementing the vision of SUPPORT4youth.eu: to encourage young people to see themselves as an effective part of Europe – and to contribute to an inclusive society through active solidarity, creativity, and participation.
