Objectives

The main objective of this project was to raise awareness for inclusion in the hospitality industry and provide a simple, accessible introduction to the topic. We aimed to offer a comprehensive yet practical resource that enables accommodation providers to understand, implement, and benefit from inclusive practices. By developing an easy-to-use online course, we wanted to ensure that businesses—especially small and medium-sized enterprises—could access a broad range of practical, actionable information without requiring extensive prior knowledge. The course covers both guest accessibility and inclusive workplace environments, helping businesses create more welcoming and diverse hospitality experiences. Through this project, we sought to bridge the knowledge gap, reduce uncertainties surrounding inclusion, and encourage a long-term commitment to inclusive practices in the tourism sector.

Background

We applied for this project because we identified a clear need for an easy, low-threshold introduction to the topic of inclusion in the hotel industry. While inclusion is a growing concern, there were very few accessible and practical resources specifically designed for hospitality businesses. Furthermore, we recognized that inclusion must be approached holistically—not only in terms of guest accessibility but also in the workplace environment for employees with disabilities. Many small and medium-sized accommodation providers lack knowledge, resources, and guidance on how to implement inclusive practices effectively. This project aimed to close this gap by developing a structured, easy-to-use online course that provides practical solutions for both guest services and workplace inclusion. By making inclusion more accessible, we sought to empower hospitality businesses to create a more welcoming and diverse environment for all.
