Objectives

We aimed to foster social inclusion and raise awareness among target groups about the places they live in. By engaging these groups and developing a connection with their communities through public and oral history methodologies, we wanted to increase their sense of belonging and connection. We also wanted to improve educators' knowledge about Public/Oral History methodologies so they could utilize their experiences in future projects in other settings. The tools provided to educators could help them sensitize youngsters about project topics and start a social inclusion process through culture and storytelling. The concrete results of the project were: *the creation of a new Guide and Training Format for educators to be trained in Public/Oral History methodologies, *an oral archive to be recorded by youngsters and educators and left to local libraries, *a Toolkit with the procedure and results of each Workshop. The intangible results of the project were: *to increase awareness among educators on how to foster active citizenship of youngsters through Public History methodology *and improving the social skills of participants as agents of community engagement in their own communities.

Background

*Our goal was to engage with young people (18-30) and increase their sense of community and participation through workshops and oral history methodology. Improving competencies in educators (as well as participants ) on historic investigation, community engagement, participatory practices and critical thinking while using public and oral history as a tool to endure social cohesion and participation, was also one of the goals. *Our priorities included civic engagement and participation as well as inclusion and diversity. *The project wanted to address issues such as democracy and inclusive participation, creativity and providing an education on the methodologies of public and oral history. We believe we’ve successfully addressed these concerns: *Through training, we improved the competencies of our educators. *Local workshops helped engage youngsters in active citizenship. *Local exhibitions engaged the local community and created opportunities for participation. *Through the toolkit we produced, we’ve created a document and resource that can be utilized by other organizations. *The international cooperation helped develop an adaptable format for non-formal training methods in active citizenship and oral history.
