The main objective of the DIGITMI project was to enhance the digital entrepreneurial skills of unemployed and in-transition adults, thereby improving their employability and enabling them to actively participate in the digital economy. To achieve this, the project aimed to equip participants with the competences required to start, manage and grow an online business, including digital marketing, e-commerce management, online presence development and customer engagement. A key objective was the development and implementation of innovative microlearning courses, based on identified DIGITMI skills, offering flexible, accessible and learner-centred training formats. Furthermore, the project aimed to design and validate a structured microcredential recognition system, enabling participants to receive formal recognition of their acquired skills. Finally, DIGITMI sought to foster European collaboration and knowledge exchange, ensuring the development of scalable and transferable solutions in digital entrepreneurship upskilling.
The DIGITMI project was initiated to address a critical and growing gap in digital entrepreneurial skills among unemployed and in-transition adults across Europe. Rapid digitalisation and the expansion of e-commerce are transforming labour markets, yet many adults face significant barriers in accessing flexible, relevant and practice-oriented training opportunities. Traditional learning formats often fail to meet their needs, particularly in terms of time flexibility, accessibility and direct applicability. At the same time, there was a clear need for recognised certification mechanisms that validate newly acquired digital skills and enhance employability. The project responded to these needs by combining a research-based approach with innovative microlearning methodologies and a structured microcredential recognition system. Furthermore, the project addressed the need for cross-country collaboration and knowledge exchange to identify common skill gaps and develop scalable, European-level solutions. DIGITMI thus contributed to improving digital readiness, fostering self-entrepreneurship and creating accessible upskilling pathways for vulnerable target groups.
