The fit2LEAD project aims to promote the sustainable integration of people with disabilities into the labour market and facilitate their access to leadership positions. It empowers both people with disabilities and those who lead diverse teams by developing inclusive leadership skills. More specifically, the following key objectives were pursued: • Raising awareness of the need for leadership skills for inclusive and diverse teams (O1) • Promoting positive attitudes towards the leadership potential of persons with disabilities (O2) • Equipping individuals with disabilities by building their confidence and competencies for leadership roles (O3) • Supporting managers and team leaders in acquiring inclusive leadership skills to foster equal opportunities (O4) • Equipping adult educators with resources to teach inclusive leadership effectively (O5) • Fostering cooperation and knowledge exchange between organisations active in labour market inclusion and adult education. (O6) Through these objectives, fit2LEAD contributes to a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable European labour market.
Successfully integrating persons with disabilities into the labour market remains a major challenge. Around 87 million EU citizens live with a disability and still face unequal opportunities, precarious employment, and barriers to leadership roles. The EU’s Disability Employment Package and the UN CRPD (Article 27, General Comment No. 8) highlight persistent discrimination and the lack of programmes empowering persons with disabilities to access the open labour market. Sustainable improvement requires structural change and a mindset shift toward disability mainstreaming. Managers at all levels need competencies for inclusive and diverse teams, while leaders with disabilities can act as ambassadors and role models, strengthening equality. fit2LEAD closes this gap by promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities through inclusive leadership training, training both adult educators and persons with disabilities, and promoting cooperation and awareness across Europe to foster long-term inclusion in the world of work.
