As part of this third year of the Erasmus+ 2021-2027 programming, UMONS continued and strengthened the implementation of its European strategy, and developed the priority areas of the Charter in terms of inclusion, digitalization, eco-responsibility and education for citizenship in the operationalization of mobility activities. The systemic and geopolitical context of the 2023 project proved to be less favorable to the resurgence of European and international mobility activities. Despite everything, UMONS pursued its objective of concreting its strategic commitment to stimulate its university community in order to face the transversal challenges of ecological, energy, digital and social transition. This project has also contributed to our goal of training students as world citizens and enriching their curriculum through the consolidation of European and international collaborations in education, research and innovation. In 2023, UMONS chose to put a european country in the spotlight: Italy. Throughout the academic year 2023-2024, a programme of activities was set up to celebrate this country, with which UMONS has always closely collaborated in its international projects - and more specifically, as part of the Erasmus+ programme. An opening ceremony of the Year of Italy was organized in the presence of the Ambassador of Italy to Belgium. On this occasion, we invited the daughter of Mr. Domenico LENARDUZZI, CEO of the Erasmus program in the 90s. Evoking his memory also reminds us of the roots of the Erasmus+ programme and the European desire to calibrate the education area as strategic a tool for European construction.
