Objectives

The 2023 Erasmus+ project of the Université Libre de Bruxelles builds on the strategy initiated in 2021 and was therefore aimed at encouraging as many students and staff members as possible to take part in an international mobility experience during their time at the university. In addition to the traditional long-term study and traineeship mobilities, which are an integral part of the university’s culture, we placed a strong emphasis on promoting short-term opportunities through dozens of Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) offered to students across all faculties. An internal study had shown that the duration of mobility periods could be a barrier for many students, which reinforced the need to extend this type of mobility for the 2023 edition of the programme. We also aimed to broaden the use of the Online Learning Agreement (OLA) to additional faculties and to continue work on validating digital agreements, thereby moving closer to the goal of fully digital management, as promoted by the European Commission. Through new and creative initiatives, we also sought to encourage more participants to make sustainable destination choices and to travel using environmentally friendly means of transport. At the same time, we worked internally to make our procedures more sustainable and to encourage participants to integrate this awareness throughout their mobility experience. As in previous years, ensuring that mobility opportunities remain accessible to all profiles was a key priority. We aimed for the percentage of students with fewer opportunities participating in mobility to reflect their proportion in the overall student population. Finally, we strengthened our efforts to highlight the importance of democratic engagement by organising a new community-building event. While European values to be promoted during an exchange are already outlined in our guides and mobility agreements, we wanted to step up our communication efforts on this essential theme. Beyond these global objectives, the primary aim of the Student Mobility Office responsible for managing these projects is to remain available to fully support participants in their mobility plans, provide them with comprehensive information on all aspects of studying or training abroad, and respond to their individual needs. We therefore hoped to once again achieve a participant satisfaction rate close to 100% by the end of the project, as student and staff satisfaction remains our utmost priority.
