UC Leuven-Limburg (UCLL) is committed to fostering internationalization as a core component of its institutional strategy. Through the KA131 project, we aimed to strengthen our international partnerships and enhance the mobility of students and staff, contributing to the broader European Education Area and aligning with UCLL’s six strategic pillars for international cooperation: - Strategic cooperation - Quality assurance collaboration - Educational innovation - Joint research initiatives - Staff mobility - Student mobility Our partnerships span across higher education institutions, industry, and technology sectors, both within Europe and globally. These collaborations are essential for developing a dynamic and responsive curriculum, ensuring that our educational and research activities remain relevant and future-proof. We emphasize a bottom-up approach, allowing faculties and departments to identify compatible partners and co-create meaningful mobility and learning experiences. One of our key objectives is to ensure that at least 30% of our students gain international exposure during their studies. This is pursued through a mix of long-term and short-term physical mobility, as well as through internationalization at home initiatives, such as COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning), guest lectures, and intercultural projects. These experiences are designed to broaden students’ global perspectives, enhance their employability, and prepare them for a diverse and connected world. In parallel, we actively promote staff mobility for teaching, training, and research purposes. Our goal is to encourage staff members to engage in international experiences that contribute to their professional development, foster intercultural competence, and stimulate innovation in teaching and research. We work closely with our HR department to integrate mobility into our staff evaluation and development frameworks, ensuring that international engagement is recognized and valorized. During the reporting period, UCLL realized the following outbound mobilities: - Student Mobility for Studies (SMS): 270 - Student Mobility for Traineeships (SMT): 82 - Staff Mobility for Teaching (STA): 49 - Staff Mobility for Training (STT): 113 It is important to note that some student mobilities were not reported due to incomplete Erasmus documentation. We are actively working to improve administrative support and awareness among students to ensure full compliance and reporting in future cycles. Overall, the KA131 project has made a significant contribution to UCLL’s internationalization goals. It has enabled us to deepen strategic partnerships, enhance the quality and relevance of our education, and support the personal and professional growth of our students and staff. We are eager to expand these efforts and integrate internationalization across all levels of our institution.
