"Extend Horizons" is one of the six strategic educational objectives of Ghent University (UGent). This objective focuses on strengthening internationalisation within education, with the ultimate goal of optimally preparing students and staff for a globalised world. However, this is not feasible without the Erasmus+ KA131 programme. Ghent University's strategic choice to participate in a university alliance, such as ENLIGHT, stems directly from this ambition. KA131 is therefore an essential pillar for achieving this objective of "pushing boundaries" along various lines. 1. Strengthening international experience – at home and abroad Ghent University stimulates global perspectives among students and staff, both through international mobility and within their own institution. KA131 makes it possible to provide cross-border learning experiences, which contribute to a broader worldview and intercultural understanding. 2. Improving the quality of education By working with partner institutions, we can exchange good practices and integrate innovative teaching methods. KA131 supports this exchange and contributes to the renewal of our educational offer. 3. Supporting personal and professional development International mobility offers students and staff opportunities to strengthen their international competences, intercultural skills, language skills and personal growth. For staff, professional development and international collaboration is a core aspect of their career development. 4. Promoting equality and inclusion Ghent University strives to make mobility accessible to students from underrepresented or vulnerable groups. KA131 enables inclusive forms of mobility, such as blended mobility and virtual exchanges, thereby lowering barriers. 5. Strengthening institutional partnerships KA131 facilitates closer cooperation with strategic partners and supports the development of sustainable networks for joint educational projects and social involvement. Our participation in ENLIGHT is inextricably linked to this objective. 6. Increase visibility and reputation Through international collaboration, Ghent University positions itself as a progressive, globally connected university. KA131 helps us to make our commitment to European values and educational quality visible on the international stage.
