Higher education institutions in Flanders have three core missions: education, research, and community service. Antwerp Maritime Academy (AMA) firmly believes in the transformative potential of Erasmus+ mobilities and recognizes their power to strengthen the professional, social, and intercultural competences of individuals. In doing so, they make a significant contribution to these three pillars. Although AMA is a small institution and external audit bodies impose certain limitations on international mobilities, we continue to attach great importance to offering international opportunities. Short-term mobilities provide an effective means to give more students the chance to gain international experience. Job shadowing played a key role as the starting point of our Erasmus+ project. By observing how other institutions organize their teaching and shape their collaborations, we were able to gather valuable insights. Within the Erasmus+ framework, job shadowing evolved into a crucial tool for benchmarking AMA’s innovative teaching practices and administrative processes against those of other institutions. This enabled us to strengthen our own organization and lower barriers to international exchanges. As a result, we were able to modernize our educational content and refine our organizational structures to better align with a continuously changing educational landscape. Daarnaast fungeert Erasmus+ als katalysator voor de internationalisering van onderzoek. Het programma creëert mogelijkheden voor onderzoeksstages en biedt een stimulerende omgeving waarin studenten en medewerkers informeel leren en onderzoeksvaardigheden ontwikkelen. Binnen dit kader spelen bachelor- en masterscripties een centrale rol: studenten krijgen de kans hun eindwerken in een internationale context uit te voeren, wat zowel de kwaliteit van hun onderzoek als hun academische vorming versterkt. Ten slotte gebruikt AMA Erasmus+ om langdurige en structurele samenwerkingen met internationale zusterorganisaties te bevorderen. Deze partnerschappen ondersteunen de opbouw van duurzame netwerken en dragen bij aan de verdere verbetering van de kwaliteit van ons onderwijs, onderzoek en maatschappelijke dienstverlening.
