Objectives

To optimize the quality of coaching provided to young people in the workplace and thereby enhance their long-term employability in the labor market. - Strengthen the environment in which young people engage in “workplace learning” so that every young person can make the most of their talents and develop them. This leads to more successful workplace learning pathways, in which the young person becomes and remains motivated to participate in an inclusive labor market after completing their training. - Fostering an inclusive mindset among workplace mentors and intermediaries regarding working with young people in the workplace. - Providing scientific frameworks based on brain development to substantiate the importance of this mindset. - Raise awareness among mentors and intermediaries and provide tools to help them develop this inclusive mindset. - Develop a sustainable (digitized) form of support and professional development available 24/7 for mentors so that they acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to support, guide, inspire, and motivate these young people, as well as to learn from one another.

Background

The project focussed on insights from neuroscience and education to facilitate more empathetic and insightful guidance. It aimed to provide tools for mentors who support workplace learning. Workplace mentors are not always equipped with the mentoring skills, insights, or communication skills needed to fully bring out young people’s talents or to interpret the behavior of vulnerable young people during their work placements. With this project, we aimed to improve the mentoring skills of mentors in companies and intermediaries who support young people during their internships. We focused specifically on vulnerable young people who need a little more support. We sought to strengthen learning environments through high-quality guidance, ensuring that young people remain motivated, early dropout is prevented, and the transition from education to the labor market proceeds smoothly. This was achieved in collaboration with various education and labor market partners in the province of Limburg. Through this project, we are committed to establishing a sustainable (digitized) form of support and professional development for mentors.
