"So Keres, Europa?!" – a phrase originating from the Romani language that translates to "What's up Europe?" – was an international week-long youth forum that united young participants from both Roma and non-Roma backgrounds. This event took place in the picturesque town of Balatonkese, located within the Balaton-Veszprem region of Hungary, a location proudly designated as the European Cultural Capital for 2023. The primary objective of this initiative was to heighten awareness of the challenges faced by young Europeans of Romani heritage, with a particular focus on combating antigypsyism. From 2015 to 2023, "So Keres, Europa?!" saw the enthusiastic participation of over 900 young Europeans. The project provided a platform for these participants to engage in a diverse range of workshops. These workshops covered critical issues like countering antigypsyism and hate speech, all while leveraging the power of the arts as an effective tool to both celebrate and promote Roma culture, as well as dispel harmful stereotypes. The objectives of "So Keres Europa!?" were as follows: Raising International Awareness: The first goal was to elevate awareness concerning the circumstances of Roma youth and their communities on a global scale. It aimed to empower youth activism in confronting antigypsyism, achieved by blending the realms of arts and human rights. Eradicating Biases and Stereotypes: This initiative sought to deconstruct and eliminate prevailing biases and stereotypes against Roma among non-Roma youth. Achieving this required a balanced participation of both Roma and non-Roma youth, fostering mutual understanding. Exploring Antigypsyism: An important aspect of the project was the exploration of antigypsyism. This entailed an examination of its contemporary manifestations and the identification and development of artistic responses through thematic workshops. Promoting European Values: Additionally, "So Keres Europa!?" aimed to promote the fundamental values upheld by the European Union and the Erasmus Plus program, with a central focus on inclusion, human rights, and diversity.
