Objectives

With this project, we wanted to set up an international youth exchange where young people from different backgrounds could meet, learn from each other and grow together. The original plan was to set up an exchange with a Palestinian partner, but due to circumstances, this was changed to an exchange with the Cypriot organisation Hope for Children. This change was approved by the National Agency and brought new opportunities within the same thematic framework. Our objectives remained largely the same in terms of content: 1. Promoting intercultural learning and connection between young people: We wanted to bring young people from Belgium and Cyprus together to get to know each other better, discover each other's worlds and break down stereotypes and prejudices. Through conversations, cultural activities and joint assignments, they learned to treat differences and similarities with respect. 2. Stimulating personal growth among young people with fewer opportunities: The young people in this project are often in vulnerable situations and face barriers in terms of education, work, well-being or social participation. By offering them an international learning experience, we supported their self-confidence, resilience, communication and collaboration skills. 3. Increasing understanding of themes such as sustainability, citizenship and human rights: Through workshops, visits and exchanges with local initiatives in Cyprus (such as Hope for Children's work on children's rights and youth participation), young people learned about social engagement, sustainable development and how they themselves can contribute to a more inclusive society. 4. Methodology and knowledge exchange between organisations: In addition to the focus on young people, another objective was for the organisations (Arktos and Hope for Children) to learn from each other, share working methods and consider future collaborations. Despite the change in partner country and organisation, the core values of the project have remained the same: connection, inclusion, personal development and active participation in society.
