Formaat is developing supporting methods, tools and educational programs for voluntary and professional youth clubworkers, mainly to create more and stronger open youth work. The focus within this project on active citizenship and entrepreneurship can be linked to multiple pillars of open youth work (as formulated by Formaat): - the centrality of young people - growing and learning - creating a democratizing and politicizing environment - working neighborhood oriented - equality - working as a collective. One of the five key priorities described in the Flemish youth and children’s rights policy for the period of 2020-2024 focuses on voluntary youth engagement in our society. The Flemish government wants to make sure that youngsters and children can actively contribute towards society by using the power of their voice. They want to stimulate voluntary engagement by creating an environment where this engagement is recognized and appreciated. Our project lies within this key priority as in our definition, active citizenship means both stimulating entrepreneurship in open youth work and social engagement of young people for their own communities and neighborhood. It also means that youngsters have ownership within organizations that are oriented bottom-up and focus on co-creation. Furthermore, as Formaat wants to focus on stronger European active citizenship, we look towards European policy as well. Two of the key priorities stated by the council of Europe are ‘Revitalizing pluralistic democracy’ and ‘Young people’s access to rights’. This translates into the following action: “youth organizations and member States have increased their capacity to develop youth policy and youth work for the democratic participation of young people”. This action fits quite well compared to previous definitions of active citizenship stated above. We have imposed varying objectives within this project: Objective 1: To nurture and strengthen projects on active citizenship and entrepreneurship in youth work. - To inspire project workers in order to stimulate a culture of innovation in their own project. - To refresh, renew and broaden the knowledge and vision on the topics of youth (club) work and active citizenship and entrepreneurship. Objective 2: To build up a body of knowledge on the topics youth (club) work, active citizenship and entrepreneurship. - To explore innovative projects and new forms of youth work. - To secure new knowledge on the above topics. - To disseminate new knowledge on the above topics to youth work organizations in the own region. Objective 3: To build international relationships with similar organizations. - To gather and to share new international contacts between Formaat, participating youth clubs and the hosting organization. - To set up new partnerships between Formaat, participating youth clubs and organizations in Montenegro
