Objectives

Initiatives started by youthworkers or youngsters with diverse backgrounds don't always find connection with the traditional youthwork organisations. In some cases these organisations aren't even considered as youtwork organisation or even as youthworkers. This is often because they start bottom up and operate from the needs of the youngsters. Concretely this means that these organisations very soon start with a lot of side activities that aren't considered as youth work activities such as homework support, sports activities, combating poverty, helping young people find a job etc. While this extra effort should be encouraged and applauded they often get refused and denied to get any recognition for their youth activities. That’s why we would like to organize an educational study visit to Istanbul for 3 nights, 4 days and visit different youth organisations to broaden our vision and to see how youthwork is organized in Turkiye. To get an insight how youthwork is developing in these countries, how they express themselves. Because Belgium has received and is receiving immigration from different countries. These immigrants don’t always find their way to the traditional youth work such as the scouts. They often start their own youth organizations. However, new associations established by immigrant youth cannot make sufficient progress, which in turn causes young people to not benefit from opportunities sufficiently. This is partly due to the fact that they do not understand the basic principles of the existing youth sector in Belgium. But also, because they don’t know enough about the youth organizations in the countries they migrate from. They want to stay true to the values, working principles and traditions from their home countries but fail to do so because they lack examples, good practices and network. In this context, we want to offer a new opportunity to our youth workers, members and youth officers we work with. By implementing this project we want the different participants to broaden their views and get to new insight. We want to create a dialogue between them and show that alldow we have a strong tradition in Belgium we can still learn from the other youth work traditions in other countries. Objectives: • Make the participants discuss and think about the impact and definition of youth work • Support understanding of youth work realities in visited countries • Learn about youth polices in visited countries. • Deepen Social and Historical Knowledge about the youth work and the impact of this on Belgium • Get to know wide range of organizations in Turkiye working with young people on different levels. • Create atmosphere of common understanding between people representing different cultures, working styles, etc. • Introduce new working methods and tools to allow the zelforganisaties to express themselves better • Create a dialogue between youth officers and "zelforganisaties" and give them the space and opportunity to understand each other
