Objectives

ReThink aimed to improve the quality of life and well-being of people with diabetes and those at risk by: • Enhancing the knowledge, skills, and competences of adult workers and organizations in the field of diabetes. • Developing an educational guidebook for social workers. • Creating awareness of diabetes through a targeted communication campaign. • Advocating for the active participation of people with diabetes in sports and physical activities. • Disseminating project results for maximum impact.

Background

Diabetes was a pervasive health issue affecting millions of people worldwide, including adults. Despite being a common chronic illness, there was still a significant knowledge gap when it came to recognizing, managing, and providing care for people with diabetes. This lack of knowledge could lead to detrimental health outcomes and reduce the quality of life of those affected by the condition. The ReThink project aimed to address this issue by providing education and training to social workers, with a focus on creating inclusive and safe environments for adults with diabetes. The project brought together two organizations, one with expertise in diabetes management and the other in adult education and skills building. The project equipped social workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to recognize and respond to diabetes emergencies, manage and monitor blood glucose levels, and promote active participation in sports and physical activities. Through collaborative learning and joint training activities, the project fostered a culture of inclusion and awareness among adult workers. The project's results included the development of the ReThink Guidebook for adults and increased awareness about diabetes among the target group.
