Objectives

The 3 specific objectives we set to achieve: 1. Develop the 2 partner organisations’ capacities to provide relevant high-quality training to youth and prepare them for successful transition from school to their first job 2. Improve the toolset and competences of 16 youth workers from the teams of the 2 partners in delivering NFE workshops related to personal development, career development and (social) entrepreneurship. 3. Support 20 youth in each partner community to acquire hard and soft skills (personal and interpersonal) and improve their confidence to make informed career choices and enter the job market Through this project, we aimed to create a methodology that builds on the combined expertise of both partners while bringing innovation to our youth work. The goal was to develop effective tools and methods, both non-formal and digital, to support young people's personal and career development. We wanted to help youth navigate the right path to their studies and careers through a step-by-step self-discovery approach, making the transition from school to their first job smoother by reducing anxiety, improving opportunities, and encouraging entrepreneurial spirit and initiative.

Background

In 2023, only 5% of youth in BG combined work and studies, entering the job market without practical skills. Youth unemployment in BG was 11.2% in 2022, with many lacking knowledge on how to find a job, contributing to high rates. Greece’s youth unemployment was even higher at 35.2%. Partners' 12 years of work with youth revealed many young graduates lack self-awareness, struggle with career choices, and lack motivation. Early training is needed to complement formal education, equipping youth with career planning skills, soft skills, entrepreneurial competences. Many struggle to transition from school to work due to a lack of practical experience. A survey of 50 youth aged 15-25 in BG and GR implemented before project application confirmed key needs: understanding labor law, increasing self-awareness, and finding meaningful employment. Youth expressed the desire to improve soft skills, gain confidence, set goals, and learn about flexible work options. All those findings were solidified during pilot tests when youth shared their worries about the future, struggles they face (lack of social skills, low self-image) and thankfulness that they had the chance to participate in the project.
