Objectives

ECO-BOOST aimed to strengthen educators’ competences and enhance the provision of high-quality learning opportunities tailored to low-skilled learners. It sought not only to support learners in acquiring new knowledge and skills through educators, but also to ensure these respond to evolving labour market demands, particularly in the context of the green transition. Special attention was given to improving the relevance and applicability of training provision. The overall objective was to expand access to relevant, high-quality training that enables low-skilled learners to develop key competences and prepare for sustainable, future-oriented careers. This included fostering technical and transversal skills aligned with industry needs. The project focused on 3 specific objectives: 1) Creating learning opportunities for low-skilled learners with a priority to people with disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve inclusion and diversity in the fields of education and training 2) Extending and developing educators' training competences to support low-skilled unemployed learners with adequate green skills 3) Dissemination of results during and after project lifetime by creating a sustainable partnership of complementary parties

Background

The ECO-BOOST project was developed in response to major labour market changes driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a green economy. These shifts have increased uncertainty in employment while creating new opportunities, with millions of green jobs expected to emerge. However, a significant skills gap remains, with many young people feeling unprepared for future work and a large share of the workforce needing reskilling. This challenge is especially critical in the VET sector, where low-skilled and unemployed learners often lack access to tailored training. ECO-BOOST addressed these issues by supporting VET providers in delivering high-quality, labour market–relevant education. The project focused on strengthening educators’ ability to integrate green and transversal skills into teaching, particularly in sectors such as Construction, Furniture & Textile, Healthcare, and Electricity. By promoting innovative lifelong learning approaches, ECO-BOOST improved employability, reduced skills mismatches, and supported Europe’s transition toward a more sustainable and resilient economy, while aligning education more closely with industry needs.
