Objectives

The Erasmus+ KA131 2023 project aimed to achieve goals that reflect both The Cyprus Institute’s (CyI) mission and priorities and the broader objectives of the Erasmus+ programme. A primary aim of the project was the exchange of knowledge, skills, and expertise between its students and staff and their counterparts at partner institutions across Europe. This aligned with CyI’s broader internationalization strategy by promoting global academic engagement and strengthening cross-border collaborations. In addition to enhancing academic and professional growth, the project offered participants the opportunity to experience different cultures, contributing to the development of a European identity and fostering intercultural understanding, which are key priorities of the Erasmus+ programme. For students, CyI aimed to provide access to cutting-edge knowledge in specialized fields. Through collaborating with distinguished faculty at leading European institutions, students gained advanced skills and insights that not only improved their academic performance but also increased their employability. Practical training in diverse research environments allowed students to engage with innovative methodologies, empowering them to contribute more effectively to research. Staff mobilities were also a key component of this project, contributing to institutional growth and capacity building. The project sought to strengthen professional skills and institutional innovation through specialized training across diverse scientific and technical fields, such as dust mineralogy, advanced geophysical software, and energy systems modelling. They also received hands-on instruction in non-invasive techniques for cultural heritage documentation, particularly for painted panels. These activities strengthened CyI’s interdisciplinary research capacity and supported innovation in environmental science, archaeology, and sustainable energy. Another key objective was to foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange. By engaging with host institutions across Europe, CyI aimed to build sustainable partnerships, promote interdisciplinary dialogue, and encourage mutual learning through activities such as Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). These exchanges not only supported individual academic progress but also contributed to the strategic expansion of CyI’s research networks. Overall, the project strengthened CyI’s academic and institutional capacity through targeted mobilities, intercultural engagement, and strategic collaboration with European partners.
