This project aimed to enrich knowledge and visibility on women's contributions and achievements in the history of Cyprus and Europe. This was achieved through the production of a new e-book on Cypriot women's biographies, and the implementation of a Grand Event launching women's biographies. The Event was accompanied by an innovative performance by a joint group of Spanish and Cypriot artists using physical theatre and circus arts (e.g. aerial and floor acrobatics) narrating women's history.
This project aimed to tackle the long-standing invisibility of women in Cypriot historiography, as women’s contributions and experiences have often been neglected, reinforcing distorted gender stereotypes. Despite progress in European research since the 1970s, Cyprus still lacks well-documented biographies of women, particularly those who challenged social norms. This project has addressed the need to recover and disseminate these stories by publishing an e-book of selected biographies, and by having presented a public performance inspired by women's history using circus and theatrical techniques. By combining research and innovative artistic expression, the project aimed to raise awareness of women’s history locally in Cyprus and in Spain, while providing a platform for Cypriot and Spanish artists to collaborate and explore new forms of performance.
