Objectives

By implementing this project, the university sought to strengthen its long-term strategy of internationalisation and to create new opportunities for students and staff to gain valuable international experience. The project's primary objectives were to develop the global competencies of students and university employees, and to foster an open and inclusive environment based on intercultural dialogue. The project promoted student exchanges and staff mobility, thereby enhancing international cooperation and contributing to the improvement of education, research, and professional development across the institution. Study stays and traineeships abroad were designed as a means of significantly broadening students’ horizons. These experiences aimed to improve language skills, enable the acquisition of new theoretical knowledge and practical competencies in the field of study, and provide exposure to different teaching methods and academic traditions. Studying in another country was also regarded as an opportunity for personal growth - for developing independence, adaptability, problem-solving skills, and, not least, self-confidence. These competencies are essential for preparing graduates for a globalised labour market that demands flexibility and openness to change. Students who took part in the project returned with valuable experiences for both their future careers and their further studies at home. They were able to share their insights with their peers, thereby enriching the academic environment of the entire university. The project also focused on intercultural learning. It was expected that student mobility would help participants to better understand the values of the European Union, strengthen their sense of belonging and promote tolerance and mutual respect. By joining courses and extracurricular activities, incoming students enriched the multicultural environment of the university, contributing to an open atmosphere built on dialogue and cooperation. Consequently, the university became a place where different cultures and traditions converge, fostering mutual understanding and respect throughout the academic community. Another essential component of the project was the mobility of academic staff. Teaching and training periods abroad enabled teachers to develop skills such as teaching in a foreign language, designing innovative teaching methods and engaging in international projects. These experiences provided inspiration and new ideas that were transferred back into teaching and research at home. Through mobility, academics joined professional networks, shared good practice and established new contacts, strengthening institutional partnerships. This contributed to the innovation of study programmes, greater student involvement in research activities and the development of teamwork in an international setting. The project also focused on the professional development of non-academic staff, who play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the university and in fostering a supportive environment for students and academics alike. Mobility allowed them to enhance their language skills, develop new administrative and service-related competencies, and cultivate intercultural sensitivity. These experiences enabled staff to better understand the needs of international students and employees, providing them with more effective assistance and contributing to the creation of a welcoming and open university environment. Improving their skills had a positive impact on the quality of services and administrative support, and on the overall satisfaction of all members of the academic community.
