Objectives

The main objective of the project was to strengthen the academic, professional, and artistic profile of students and staff of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts (hereinafter JAMU) and to create conditions for their development in an international context. The project was based primarily on student mobilities, which were successfully implemented and significantly exceeded the allocated numbers (27 study mobilities were allocated and 58 implemented, and 6 traineeship mobilities were allocated and 10 implemented). At the same time, the project responded flexibly to the increased interest, especially in short-term stays within Blended Intensive Programmes (7 students participated in the Ton Koopman Academy in The Hague in January 2024, 2 students joined the international wind orchestra coordinated by the Liszt Academy in Budapest in July 2024, 5 students attended the BIP “COMPEREL” in Padua, and finally 18 students of the Theatre Faculty took part in the Commedia dell'arte Network Meeting hosted by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, in which ESAD de Galicia also participated alongside JAMU). The scope for staff mobilities, both teaching and training, gradually expanded as well. In the case of teaching mobilities, more were eventually carried out than originally allocated by the grant, thanks to the possibility of zero-grant mobilities and funding from other sources beyond Erasmus+ (in particular projects of the National Recovery Plan implemented under extraordinary calls). In line with the strategy of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts, we support not only the development of professional skills of our students, but also the strengthening of their language, cultural, and interpersonal competences, which are essential for their future employability in the artistic and wider professional fields. For students of artistic disciplines, international mobility represents an important opportunity to experience different teaching approaches, current trends, and international artistic cooperation. This is particularly beneficial for students of the Theatre Faculty (9 out of 10 traineeship mobilities were carried out by Theatre Faculty students), as they bring new professional and intercultural experiences that significantly enhance their employability. Students most often carried out their traineeships at the Czech Centres (Brussels, Cairo, Vienna, Athens) or in university theatres and theatre companies (Hotel Europa, University of the Arts Helsinki, Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Grotowski Institute in Wrocław), where they contributed to the implementation of stage productions. Based on the positive experience of host institutions with our students, they were often offered further collaboration. For example, we can mention the subsequent graduate traineeship of Zita Maršíková at the Czech Centre Vienna in the academic year 2025/2026, or the collaboration on joint projects between the Portuguese theatre company Hotel Europa and its Brno counterpart Theatre Feste, led by Jiří Honzírek, a doctoral student of the Theatre Faculty’s Drama Arts programme. Staff mobilities enabled the sharing of know-how, development of teaching methods, establishment of new contacts, and inspiration for further innovation in both teaching and university management. The project contributed to strengthening JAMU’s international cooperation, consolidating partnership networks, and deepening the overall internationalisation across the institution. The strategic aim of the university is to join the IN.TUNE alliance, focused on cooperation among European arts universities, and this project also supported mobilities to member institutions. For example, we may mention the mobilities of teachers Josef Morávek, Pierre Nadaud, and Michal Bumbálek to Graz, where they deepened cooperation with partner institutions KUG Graz and ESAD Galicia through the Commedia dell’arte Network Meeting BIP and initiated a continuation of the project expanded to include further partners (ESMAE Porto, Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Filmuniversität Babelsberg “Konrad Wolf”) in the form of another BIP hosted by the Theatre Faculty in July 2025. Teachers of the Faculty of Music further strengthen strategic partnerships, especially with the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, and through their teaching activities they open new opportunities for JAMU students (e.g. teaching mobilities of Miloslav Jelínek to Madrid and Pavel Zlámal to Tallinn). They also actively participate as lecturers in BIPs (Jurij Likin and Kristina Vaculová – Cagliari, Jana Anýžová – The Hague, Martin Opršál and Michal Indrák – Padua). Staff mobilities also have a significant impact on promoting and presenting our institution at partner universities. Thanks to the teaching mobilities of our staff abroad, we have also recorded increased interest from students of these institutions in undertaking study stays at JAMU.
