The aim of the upcoming Youth Vs Disinfo project is to respond to the current unfavourable situation related to the phenomenon of disinformation. Society as a whole is in a so-called post-truth or post-fact era. My team and I would like to react to this unfavourable development and move the international group of young Europeans towards a responsible use of information. Our aim is to instil in the participants the principles of working with information, such as focusing on facts, being aware of the basic principles of working with sources or verifying information. We would like to ensure that there is no need to censor disinformation and disinformers as such or to ban their activities. Ideally, in our opinion, the majority society should be able to decode disinformation through its educated individuals. They should be able to seek out the sources of everything they read and see online and approach information in general with a detached attitude. The ideal impact, in our view, would be that a certain number of Europeans would be able to approach this ideal and approach information in a generally critical way after our accession. The current difficult situation is conducive to the spread of untruths and efforts to manipulate public opinion. An aggressive war is raging in eastern Europe, close to the borders of the European Union. In addition to the war itself, we are also facing the secondary factors that it brings with it - that is, above all, the refugee wave. It, too, is becoming the target of disinformation, and a vulnerable minority of refugees is being used by disinformers and aggressors to plant a false alternative reality designed to undermine the values that underpin the principles of democratic society in our environment. Another good recent example of how disinformation has managed to dominate a large part of the media and social space by spreading untruths was the global pandemic of the COVID SARS-19 coronavirus. It is important for us to explain the motivations of those spreading misinformation. Often it is purely economic - the more tabloid, the more shocking the message - the higher the advertising revenue. Another such identifiable intention is precisely in the context of war - waging war even in the information plane, to destabilise society and influence it. In the context of the youth exchange program, we will try to focus on specific examples and point to specific tactics. We know from our own experience that traditional institutions, which are typically schools, pay very little attention to this issue. At the same time, the subject is often explained in a very dry way and examples are absent. We intend to focus on these shortcomings in the context of our project. We want to link the topic of fake news with informal educational elements as well as with a substantive analysis of practices and case studies. In the ideal scenario that we are trying to approach, the participants themselves will continue to spread awareness of the issue of disinformation and deliberately spread untruths after the end of the project. We try to specify in advance how we intend to reach this state of affairs. It is precisely the combination of informal education and a careful analytical approach (largely inspired by institutions dealing with disinformation as a negative phenomenon) that we see as a chance to positively influence the situation.
