MAIN IDEA “Building Bridges” was a project that aimed to search for ways to promote tolerance, respect, understanding and cooperation as core values that are needed for creating a world that works for everyone. With this project, we wanted to look for ways that “build bridges” among groups, generations, communities or teams, despite the differences. We wanted to work on the idea that a world that functions on win-win strategy and where everybody's needs are met, is possible. As an approach that can support this in happening, we chose nonviolent communication (NVC). Nonviolent communication is an approach developed by Marshall Rosenberg in 1960 ́, that is nowadays being taught word-wide and has thousands of practitioners. It trains human capacity to see another human being as somebody who has their own needs and to look for empathy to those needs. Based on the understanding of different needs, there is an opportunity to look for strategies, concrete actions, that meet the needs of everybody involved. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT Participating youth workers will: - become familiar with nonviolent communication as an approach to conflict resolution, its history and principles - develop their competence of being empathic towards others and bringing empathy into working with young people - learn the language of needs and feelings and expand their capacity to understand the needs behind actions - become more equipped to handle conflicts and misunderstandings within their teams, as well as when working with youth - become ambassadors of nonviolent approach as a way to social change - develop their capacities to support win-win strategies and solutions when working with young people - expand their capacity to imagine and therefore work towards building communities and societies that are built on cooperation rather than competition - get familiar with different methods of critical pedagogy that support social change - the Theatre of the Oppressed and Futuropolis method
