The Do It Yourself project aimed to raise awareness about sustainability and show that an eco-friendly lifestyle is achievable for everyone using natural and recycled materials. The project aimed to empower youth workers and young people to adopt and promote sustainable lifestyles through practical, creative, and accessible methods. Rooted in the principles of non-formal education, the project was built on the belief that sustainability is not only a necessity but also an achievable and enjoyable approach to daily living. We empowered youth workers and young individuals by introducing them to sustainability skills and techniques, positioning this project as a foundation for their future initiatives. Key Objectives: Equipping youth workers with practical green skills to lead sustainability-focused initiatives. Promote zero-waste practices, green diets, and circular economy principles. Foster resourcefulness, encouraging creativity, resilience and sharing through the DIY (Do It Yourself) method. Develop a network of youth leaders capable of implementing sustainable practices. Create a booklet compiling project learnings as a reference for future initiatives. Encourage international cooperation and exchange of best practices. Strengthen participants’ ability to lead sustainability-focused workshops. Inspire long-term eco-friendly behavioral changes. Provide hands-on experience to integrate sustainability into daily life. Promote responsibility and awareness regarding environmental impact. Inspiring long-term, environmentally responsible behavior changes among participants and their communities. Facilitators Linda and Velizara designed the project around essential themes, encouraging creativity and resourcefulness. They focused on practical, low-impact solutions that participants could implement at home and in their youth work. Additionally, Bára from Genesis contributed with workshops on barefoot creation and Tibi Lemonade making. The project emphasized hands-on learning, engaging participants in activities that demonstrated waste reduction, material repurposing, and sustainable living. Participants collaboratively created a booklet documenting key techniques, activities, and experiences from the workshops. This resource serves as a tangible tool for future workshops and initiatives, shaped by the collective input of the group. Participants learned to reduce plastic usage, support local economies, and embrace seasonal diets, all while considering their own cultural and geographical contexts. Through international dialogue, collaboration, and creative experimentation, they developed sustainable alternatives, documented their processes, and collectively authored a booklet filled with methods and ideas adaptable to youth work across Europe and beyond. Key Outcomes: - Increased confidence among youth workers in implementing sustainability-oriented workshops. - Strengthened capacity for community engagement and peer education in environmental topics. - A practical resource (booklet) created by participants, enabling continuity and dissemination. - Expansion of a cross-national network of committed and trained sustainability ambassadors. Participants were introduced to eco-friendly techniques, including reducing plastic use, supporting local markets, and choosing seasonal foods. These methods were adapted to various cultural and geographical contexts, enriching discussions and learning experiences. The project also aimed to inspire youth workers to integrate sustainability into their work and encourage others. By equipping participants with both technical skills and a mindset of responsibility, they were empowered to lead workshops, promote zero-waste practices, and spread their knowledge within their communities. Do It Yourself project demonstrated that sustainability is achievable regardless of resources or location. It provided participants with practical tools and a collaborative approach to sustainable living. The skills and values gained during the project are expected to inspire long-term changes, with the booklet serving as a lasting resource that amplifies the project’s impact. In essence, the Do It Yourself project served as both a training ground and a launchpad—showing that sustainability is not about perfection but progress, and that with the right mindset and tools, anyone can start making eco-friendly choices today.
