Objectives

This partnership of four planetariums and satellite technology expert wanted to contribute to the informal learning in the area of enviromental and digital skills. We want to draw attention to the topic of Earth Observation as a powerful tool of the enviromental science, to encourage our visitors not only in lifelong learning in an attractive way, but also in critical thinking and, to improve the educational skills of our employees, to network and make our institutions international.

Background

The Brno Observatory and Planetarium (established in 1954) is a modern institution of informal education of youth and adults with a regional scope. It promotes and popularize science and the results of scientific research in astronomy, geology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, geography and others. We apply new information and knowledge when creating educational programs of various formats for all age groups of regular and irregular visitors. We emphasize an interactive approach and encourage and inspire visitors towards an independent experimentation and discovery of basic scientific principles and technology through a comprehensive and interesting manner. At the moment we have 45 employees. We are one of the most visited educational institutions in Brno, the most visited Planetarium in the Czech Republic and one of the most visited in whole Europe. Our broad project partnership allowed us to achieve what we cannot achieve as individual observatories and planetariums - creating educational programs for digital planetariums, this time on the topic Earth Observation.
